Badger Divide

320km, elevation 6,000m, 70% off road, 4 nights camping

This route probably needs no introduction. The Badger Divide is a breathtaking, mostly off-road bikepacking route stretching from Glasgow to Inverness, weaving through remote glens, rugged Highland landscapes, and historic trails. It’s definitely challenging but a massively rewarding and unforgettable experience.

Some sections are very remote i.e. "are we the only humans on the planet" type vibe and it does, therefore, require us to be on the ball re bikes in good condition and resupplying.

The route can be tackled in either direction—north to south or vice versa—and we’ll chat through the pros and cons of each when you book. Logistics are taken care of: we’ll either travel up to Inverness together, by car, from Glasgow and ride south, or start in Glasgow with my car already waiting in Inverness for a smooth return—no stressing about missed trains.

I’ve based this on 4 nights camping (two in campsites, two wild) and 5 days cycling. Happy to discuss doing it over a shorter or longer period.

You can ride either a gravel bike or a mountain bike. The terrain varies: gravel setups work best closer to Glasgow, while the northern sections suit mountain bikes better. Whichever you choose, I strongly recommend tyres of at least 44mm width—some sections are rough going. Want a preview? A quick YouTube search for "Badger Divide" will give you a good idea of what’s in store.
