5/10Callander Loop
130km, elevation 1,600m, off road 60%, one night camping
An amazingly varied route with smooth gravel, rugged upland tracks, drovers road, stunning remote glens, and peaceful scenic roads with lochside views. There's a few easy stream crossings and (almost) zero boggy stretches.
Quite gentle on food packing ruthlessness (and its toilet friendly) as it dips in and out of a few picturesque towns, Callandar, Lochearnhead and Killin.
It does have a few satisfying "lumps" to get over, however, this route lends itself well to being adjusted, quite easy to add/reduce distance and elevation and miss out some of the rougher track surfaces. We can have a chat on this at the pre-ride briefing and also monitor and adjust as we go.
Suitable for Gravel and MTB, I'd recommend min tyre width 44mm. Some very short sections can have a few walkers so worth having a bell.
50 minute drive to start.
Meet at 8am Saturday morning and aim to be on road no later than 9am. Plan to arrive back in Glasgow on the Sunday evening.
